Character Development

The Question

Listen,

I'm not one to believe that people have to agree with every single opinion I have on a character but a question was posed, "Which of the Avengers do you think would be a trump supporter" and an answer was given, "Tony Stark" and I don't think I've ever read a single opinion that pissed me off more.

I did not engage in the content because I knew the conversation wouldn't be productive. So, here I am, ready to rant.

First of ALL

NONE of the Avengers would be trump supporters, are you CRAZY???

Character Development Haters

I've seen it in every single debate about fiction I've ever witnessed, the people who disregard character development. They act as if characters should never have been flawed in the first place. You should write people not perfect but not tooo bad either because they won't be able to handle it when the character they hate becomes likeable through hard work and development.

I am a Tony Stark hater lowkey, despite his growth his ego won't allow him to sit out a fight even when his girlfriend/wife asks because she doesn't want him to DIE. He grows a lot but he remains egotistical and it's a trait I can't get over no matter how funny it makes him.

But in the literal first movie Tony starts as an aloof, asshole playboy with no idea the effect his company was having on the world. He witnessed first hand the damage that he was doing and tried to stop it. When they said he wasn't allowed he flew a metal suit from America to the Middle East and destroyed the weapons himself and stopped producing them.

Maybe that doesn't make him a hero in your eyes but it AT LEAST makes him better than a damn Trump supporter.

But he shouldn't have been aloof in the first place? His background, how he was raised and the trauma of his parents' spontaneous death doesn't matter. He should have been more aware of the world around him than any of us have ever been required to be because FUCK character development, I guess.

"But the Sokovia Accords" bitch???

You mean the agreement he signed after realizing that nothing he and his team did was ever good enough to save everyone or protect the world?????? After he was already feeling guilty because of the death toll, and that lady cornered and guilt tripped him?????

Let me make something unclear, clear: The Accords were signed the minute America agreed, NONE OF the Avengers had a choice it was be a cop or get chased by the cops and he didn't have to be a cop but HE WAS SCARED.

Fear is a keeyyy point in his character development.

After New York he's stuck with a ten year old talking him out of panic attacks, having nightmares about aliens invading. THEN when he tries to prevent another alien invasion it results in ULTRON the ultimate terrorist about to destroy the human population. So, yeah, I can understand believing that maybeee the superheroes need some rules and regulations. The accords are the wrong way to go about it, but I can understand the confusion AND at the end EVEN AFTER Cap and Bucky jump his ass for being mad Bucky killed his parents, he still does the right thing and ignores Ross' calls because at the end of the day he realized he was WRONG. (Have you met a trump supporter with this capability??)

Yuuup, Tony Stark has been wrong about a lot of shit, but his intentions have ALWAYS been good. His goal has always been to help people and protect the planet. He has always changed his behavior to show he was wrong, despite the fact that his ego doesn't always allow him to apologize. At the end of the series, after begging everyone to find a solution where he could keep his family, he gives it all up to save the day and because of that alone I can't let this slander slide.

END Rant

At the end of they day it's all fiction and doesn't affect the real world at all. So if you think Tony Stark would be a trump supporter that's okay! Just don't say that shit to me. 💕
