Children of Blood and Bone

I'm thinking that this might be one of those books that I just don't have much to say about?

Perfect is Perfect, what can you do?

I finished this series in the span of like three days. I had to pull my eyes away to complete my other tasks.

I love all of the characters, but Inan reminded me so much of Zuko, lmao. I was definitely waiting for him to have that "Hi, guys!" moment for the whole first book. It kinda happened but he was a crazy flip flopper and extremely easily influenced. He could not pick a side, even after his mother reveals the truth.

Amari's character growth is lovely, she went from too shy to a king killer in no time. Love that for herrr.

I'll definitely have more thoughts on this in like a week, but for now I'm stunned (in a fun way)

Characters

I do wonder if this story is the first one I've read that's perfectly balanced when it comes to being character and plot driven.

Of course there is a war happening, but each of the main characters has their own development that drives the story as much as the actions of the other characters. Not to mention the way the friendships and relationships develop as well.

Zelie and Inan

literally went from trying to kill each other to kissing on the lips in like a weekend. But it's okay, it's less of and enemies to lovers and more of an enemies and lovers lmao.

She hates his guts after he betrays them and oh my god he's the most frustrating favorite character I've ever had.

From "I need to do the right thing and help the magi!" to "If they can do that maybe they shouldn't have magic" in two seconds and EVERY TIME he came to this conclusion it was after watching a powerful magi DEFEND THEIR HOME!

I couldn't stop loving him tho, he's just confused and there's literally no way for him, the kid king, to know he'd doing the right thing and helping the most people. Everyone is so fucking violent and who's the violent one that's one the right side?

Zelie and Amari

Beautiful, Gorgeous, Perfect, Amazing.

I love them 🥹 Almost died the whole time they weren't friends, NOTHING MATTERED MORE than the girls becoming friends.

But before that, even when she didn't like her Zelie helped Amari find her strength. Amari protected Zelie without even thinking about it. They were on the same team the whole time and I love to see it.

It's what made Amari's betrayal hurt the most.

DAMN shorty just like her big brother fr.  Both her and Zelie become so stupid in book two, neither of them really listens to the other and THAT'S why the invasion happens. It's understandable that Zelie had less time when she became an Elder but she seemed extremely dismissive of Amari and her ideas. The reason for that is a little unclear to me. Is it to prove herself to the other Magi? A sense of resentment toward Amari because of her family? Resentment that despite her family's hatred of Magi they turned out to be titan? We can say that she was just busy but she had time to train Amari, which can be doubled as time to listen to her ideas?

Tzain and Amari

Eh.

Amari and Inan

Finally, some fucking siblings.

Dear god sibling relationships can be so awkward to read about in books, but for whatever reason these felt normal and relatable.

While Amari doesn't agree with her brother she knows for a fact that he has good intentions. His goal is to help people as best as he knows how. He just needs a chance to understand. She only gives up on her brother when it seems like he used her to betray her best friend.

Tzain and Zelie

I promise I love Tzain but he doesn't have a pov until book three.

The War

I'll have to gather my thoughts on this part, brb (a week, two?)
